Embark on a dynamic journey into emergency medical care with our Associate of Science (AS) degree in Paramedicine. This program is meticulously designed to shape aspiring individuals into proficient prehospital care providers, equipped to tackle the challenges of emergency medicine with confidence and expertise. Throughout the curriculum, students delve deep into the intricacies of anatomy, physiology, and emergency medical procedures, gaining a comprehensive understanding of critical concepts essential for effective patient care. From mastering cardiology and respiratory care to trauma management and pharmacology, students develop a diverse skill set tailored to meet the demands of real-world emergency scenarios. Built upon a foundation established in previous Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training, this program elevates students to advanced paramedics. They acquire proficiency in advanced techniques such as airway management, EKG interpretation, medication administration, interosseous (IO), and intravenous (IV) therapy, essential for managing complex medical emergencies with precision and efficacy. Structured as a 34-unit program, our AS in Paramedicine is divided into three immersive phases of training: Didactic Phase: Engage in stimulating lectures and hands-on skills training sessions, laying the groundwork for advanced medical knowledge and practical expertise. Clinical Experience: Immerse yourself in real-world healthcare through supervised in-hospital internships, working closely with experienced clinical preceptors to apply theoretical learning in a practical environment. Field Internship: Take your skills to the streets as you embark on supervised shifts with active paramedic units. Under the guidance of seasoned paramedic preceptors, gain invaluable hands-on experience responding to emergencies and providing life-saving care in dynamic, fast-paced settings. To enroll in this program, applicants must have completed HSCI 02 or an equivalent EMT course and hold certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), as well as California state certification. Additionally, current certification in CPR from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Students must fulfill the following major requirements with grades of C or better, complete a minimum of 60 degree-applicable semester units (12 of which must be completed at Sierra College) with a grade point average of at least 2.0 and complete one of the following general education patterns- Sierra College Associate Degree Requirements (Local General Education), or California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC).
